PE and Sport
Sport plays a vital role in the development of the children at Hanwell Fields. All children from Reception to Year 6 get 2 hours of PE with a specialist PE teacher.
This hour is focused on developing the agility, balance and co-ordination of the children enhancing their skills and generating enthusiasm for being active.
The PE curriculum is skills based and changes throughout the year but will include: gymnastics and dance for co-ordination and balance; fitness to improve stamina and to raise awareness of the children’s own body’s and how it responds to activity; athletics to focus on co-ordination and agility leading to UK Athletics Badges; ball control including different catching and throwing techniques, foot movement and body positioning and using equipment to make a ball travel with accuracy.
All children are assessed against several criteria during the PE lessons. This gives the PE team clear evidence of those children who are mastering the skills being worked on, those children who are making the expected level of progress and those who are finding it more difficult. This lets us then put more time into those children who need support and to use those more talented children as coaches which benefits them as well.
