Music Curriculum - Year 1
In Year 1, we learn to sing familiar songs and join in with simple accompaniments using glockenspiels.
We learn about the correct way to play the glockenspiel and about staying in time with the music. We also explore rhythm patterns using familiar words and phrases and join in with call and response rhythms. In our composition unit, we typically start with a familiar text and create a musical accompaniment to the story. We explore untuned percussion, talking about the different ways the instruments can be played and the different sounds they can make. We then work in a group to build up a simple percussion sequence that reflects the events in the story.
