Music Curriculum - Year 4

In Year 4, as well as knowing about ‘dynamics’ and ‘tempo’, we add ‘timbre’ to our musical vocabulary.

We compose soundscapes for our ‘Rainforest’ topic, thinking carefully about the timbre of the instruments we use to create an authentic rainforest sound. We continue learning the recorder, this time working with a partner to compose our own melodies. We record our melodies using correct ‘note value’ notation. Our singing topic in Year 4 is based around World War Two songs, and we have great fun performing a ‘mash-up’ of ‘It’s A Long Way to Tipperary’ and ‘Pack Up Your Troubles’, along with other WW2 songs. The song is in several sections and we have to concentrate on singing the correct part of the song and coming in at the right time.
