Welcome to Caterpillars

Caterpillars welcome all families and children- regardless of race, culture, sex, social class and disability. We seek to work closely with all families having a positive impact on the children’s development. Our aim is to create a stimulating learning environment where all children access an exciting curriculum, ensuring every child is happy and highly motivated to learn.

We offer care for children the academic year following their third birthday! To join the Caterpillar class your child must turn 3 before September 1st (The academic year they join us) and will be invited to attend Nursery on a daily basis (Monday-Friday) Caterpillars are part of a large Early Years Foundation Stage Unit within Hanwell Fields Community School and work closely with both Ladybirds (2-3 year olds) and Butterflies (Reception year).

Children in our setting access a vast variety of attractive, stimulating and educational experiences. More importantly, they receive the care, support and teaching from a wide host of Early Years Professionals. As a team, we aim to bring a variety of knowledge, experience and expertise to the setting- supporting and nurturing children in their early education.

If you would like to find out more about what we offer as a Nursery then please get in touch and book to come and see us in action!

Tapestry Online Learning Journal

In Caterpillars we use the Tapestry app and online platform to help us record, track and celebrate children’s progress and we then share this with families. Text, images and videos are uploaded in real time via tablets in school as our team interact with children in structured activities, group-times and during free play.

“Tapestry connects staff, parents and children together, making the learning journey a really collaborative one.”

Tapestry creates an online learning journey that allows us to make assessments, identify next steps for learning and ultimately, create a complete story of your child’s time with us.

We know that parents know their children best and therefore we ask you to contribute to your child’s learning journey by sharing information and key-events from home too.

Tapestry is an entirely secure system, with each parent receiving their own login. You can then access your child’s learning journey at any time- all you will need is download the app on your phone, register with us and remember your pin code!

Please Note: It is everyone’s responsibility to safeguard children and because of this we ask you to respect your child’s journal. There will be occasions where your child is working alongside classmates and will therefore appear in another child’s observations.

As always, if you have further questions then please ask.

Many Thanks,

The Early-Years Team at Hanwell.
