Music Curriculum - Year 5

In Year 5, we create compositions based on our topic ‘Flight’, with a focus on the musical element ‘Pitch’.

We use tuned as well as untuned percussion, working with a partner to create a melodic phrase with changes in pitch to represent ‘flight’. We then combine this with recorded sounds in Garageband to create a finished composition. We learn about the stave and begin to understand how to read simple music. In our singing unit, which is based around songs from the 1960s, we focus on developing more accurate tuning, diction and tone.
