Early Years

Welcome to Early Years at Hanwell. Come on in!

At Hanwell Fields Community School, we are proud to offer a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for our youngest learners. All of our Early-Years classes (Ladybirds, Caterpillars and Butterflies) provide children with the perfect foundation for a lifetime of learning, ensuring they feel valued, confident, and ready to take on new challenges as they grow.

Our approach to education is built on strong relationships, emotional well-being, and school-readiness, giving every child the opportunity to thrive. We believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, and supported, and we strive to make their first experiences of education within our setting enjoyable and memorable.

Our dedicated team of Early Years professionals are passionate about supporting each child’s unique interests, needs and abilities, supporting them to grow into confident, compassionate learners who are curious about the world around them.

Our Ethos

Throughout the EYFS at Hanwell we are guided by the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ensuring that each child’s learning is engaging, purposeful and child-centred.

We believe that children learn best through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences where they are encouraged to ask questions, problem-solve, and make discoveries. We aim to cultivate:

  • Emotional Intelligence: We prioritise emotional regulation and resilience, encouraging children to identify and manage their feelings.
  • Self-Confidence: Our focus on self-directed learning allows children to make choices, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning.
  • Social Skills: We create opportunities for children to collaborate, communicate, and resolve conflicts in a positive and respectful manner.

At Hanwell Fields, we embed Conscious Discipline strategies, in which children, teacher and practitioners collaborate to create a safe, stimulating and supportive environment in which to develop. This approach to behaviour supports even our youngest children to understand how to manage their behaviour for learning effectively, whilst feeling safe and secure as part of their school family.
