Art

Intent

The Hanwell Curriculum for Art and Design provides pupils with the opportunity to be creative, explore their ideas, record their experiences and become proficient in a range of techniques and mediums. It encourages them to explore the world around them, challenge their thinking and express themselves. It is culturally important and aims to give the children a voice. Pupils will be introduced to the work of artists and crafts people from the past as well as contemporary practitioners, ensuring that pupils know that art is current, relevant and important to their lives. For this reason, the choice of artists is representative of our rich and diverse community. Children are encouraged to respond individually to artwork, observing, discussing, taking part in debate and sharing their opinions with confidence. Where possible local artists and crafts people will work in school to model and inspire learning. Visits will be made to galleries, museums and arts events.
