PSHE

Equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions…’ Ofsted.

Intent

At Hanwell we provide children with the tools they need to lead safe and healthy lives and achieve their potential. Children have a solid understanding of their community and are equipped for life in modern Britain. Through a series of carefully planned lessons children progress through school with an acceptance and understanding that as a country we are so diverse. Diversity will be woven into each subject area to equip them for the world in which we live.

Children leave Hanwell with a solid understanding of:

  • Values and the importance of abiding by them.
  • Their emotions, how to manage them and who they can talk to.
  • The range of diversity in our community and the importance of respecting views, especially if we do not agree or believe in them ourselves.
  • Their bodies: why it is important to look after themselves (including drug and alcohol abuse) and what happens as we grow and change (including emotionally and physically

Impact

The impact of a high quality and a well sequenced PSHE curriculum at Hanwell Fields will be that our children know what it means to be an active, respectful citizen in our diverse community. Children have built upon their cultural capital and are ready to make safe and informed decisions either at home or in the wider community. Our children understand that they can contribute to their community through informed social action. Our curriculum improves the life chances of our most vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils imbuing all with confidence to develop greater levels of resilience and determination. Our children know how to keep themselves safe online, how to make the correct decision and when to ask for advice from and adult.
